While there are many products on the market designed to help keep our dog’s teeth clean, We all know the best way to do it is to brush their teeth with a K9 tooth paste every day.
But doing so is ALMOST as hard as getting the kids to clean theirs So we’ve done a bit of research and found some other ways that might be a little bit easier and less time consuming (cue visions of chasing the dog around the garden wielding a toothbrush).
- Ok, now this one seems pretty obvious but a sure fire way to keep your dog’s overall oral health at its peak is with a good, healthy diet. Don’t believe the dry dog food companies when they tell you kibble will help keep teeth clean, it’s about as useful as cleaning your own teeth with a digestive biscuit. Fresher diets with better ingredients will help keep your best friends oral health at its best as well as their overall health.
- Bones – Very important that you only give your dog RAW bones. Bones that have been cooked can splinter and cause internal problems and can be fatal. However, raw bones can play an integral role in removing the plaque as your dog chews it and it also relaxes them and they enjoy it! Winner winner, chicken dinner! Oh, which reminds us, make sure your bone is the right size for your dog. Chicken wings could choke a larger breed where as a lambs leg would be a bit tricky for say, a Jack Russell… well maybe not a Jack Russell but you catch our drift!
- Last but not least, the trusty chew toys that bring hours of fun are a great way to scrape off plaque and help maintain healthy gums and teeth. Supervision is advised to prevent the swallowing of small or large pieces of toy.
