How it works
FAQs
Do I need a licence or permission from my council to board dogs at my home?
This really depends on the council but generally yes. We arrange all of this for you and just ask that you cover 50% of the costs which will usually be between £40 and £75.
Do I need to have insurance?
Yes you do but again don’t worry, we provide this for you.
Do I get to meet the customer?
If you have a resident dog or other domestic animal then yes as generally a condition of the Home Boarding Licence is that any dog coming to stay must complete a pre stay Familiarisation visit. Regardless of that My Best Friend give all their customers the opportunity to meet with the Carers before the stay. In the event that a meeting is required we will provide you with the contact details and ask that you call them to arrange the visit at a mutually convenient time.
Will the dog come with everything they need?
Yes. Dogs will come with their food along with food and water bowls, their leads and harness if used, their favourite toy and treats, and of course their bedding.
Will I need to give medication to the dog?
In some instances a dog will be on daily medication and Carers will need to ensure this is administered, any medication requirements will be clearly documented
What do I do if the dog becomes ill?
For non-emergencies please contact My Best Friend for advice. If you cannot get hold of My Best Friend then contact the dog’s usual vet. For Emergencies contact your nearest vet, details of which can be found in the Carer Pack. Please record any illness or accidents on the Illness and Accident Form.
Can I take the dog in my car?
Yes but they must be restrained either in the boot with a dog guard or cage or alternatively on the back seat using a seat belt harness.
Should the dog wear a collar whilst in the house?
Yes, the dog must wear a collar at all times during their stay with a My Best Friend tag attached.
Can I walk the dog off lead?
Only where the dog’s owner has given consent. Even with consent we do not advise walking off lead for the first 1 or 2 walks.
How do I know the dog’s routines and habits?
We use a piece of Software called Pet Sitter Plus (PSP) to which you have access and this is where all of the information about the dog can be found. We ask that you read this and make sure you are familiar before the start of any stay.
Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.
