Buscot Dog Walk

This is a 5.6km loop along The Thames Path from Buscot and can be done in an hour at a brisk pace or 1.5 hours if you rather a more leisurely stroll.

Turn off the main Lechlade to Faringdon road into Buscot and park in the 2nd car park on the right signed Buscot Weir. Leave the car park and turn right on to the road heading towards the weir.

Start:

Turn off the main Lechlade to Faringdon road into Buscot and park in the 2nd car park on the right signed Buscot Weir. Leave the car park and turn right on to the road heading towards the weir. Fol low the track keeping the hedge on your left and the weir in front of you and to the right.

Waypoint 1:

0.3 km, navigate your way over the lock and then turn immediately right signed Thames Path Radcot

Waypoint 2:

0.4km, go through a wooden gate, head towards the large wooden bridge

Waypoint 3:

0.5km, cross the bridge and turn right. You will follow this path along the bank of the Thames, go through a number of gates along the way until you reach a wooden footbridge that crosses the river

Waypoint 4:

2.7km, cross the bridge and head slightly left and then bear right toward a set of white metal gates with a style to the left. Cross the style and walk along the track until you reach the cattle grid

Waypoint 5:

3.2km, turn right before the cattle grid keeping the hedge on your left

Waypoint 6:

3.5km, go though gate into next field walk up the incline with the hedge on your right

Waypoint 7:

3.7km, cross a wooden foot bridge, in the next field bear slightly right heading for the break in the hedgerow

Waypoint 8:

3.9km, walk though the gap in the hedge and continue towards the gates at the top of the field. Take care as this gate opens onto the main Lechlade to Faringdon Road

Waypoint 9:

4.3 km, go though the gates and turn immediately right down a farm track signed byway

Waypoint 10:

4.6km, turn left though a wooden gate and along a path with open fields on the left and hedges on the right.

Waypoint 11:

4.7km, continue through a set of metal gates and bear left now with the hedge on your left

Waypoint 12:

5.1km, the path will come to an end with a style on your left, cross the style and then turn right over a wooden foot bridge. This will bring you out into a small meadow, continue along the left hand boundary until you reach the road. Turn right and continue straight until you reach the car park where you started

Apres walk:

Buscot does not have a pub but it is home to a lovely tea shop (http://www.buscottearooms.co.uk/) which is open 10—5 Wednesday to Sunday, 12—5 on Tuesdays and closed on Mondays. Alternatively you can extend this walk and rather than cross the Thames at waypoint 4 continue along to Kelmscott and visit The Plough but do look at their web site before hand as at time of writing they were undergoing a large refurbishment.
