This is a great walk at Fairford and can really be as long or as short as you want it to be.
The walked noted below should take about an hour but if you look on Bing Maps (OS) you can choose to extend the route at your leisure. The route has plenty of open space, access to the River Coln and no livestock.
There are plently of places to stop for refershments if you divert into Farirford or you can take a picnic to enjoy on the banks of the river.
Start
From Lechlade take the A417 towards Fairford. Shortly after coming into the 40 zone you will see a turning on your left (Cinder Lane) signed to the football ground. Just after this turn there is a parking area just off the main road (if not a match day I tend to drive down the lane and park courteously opposite the stand)
Waypoint 1
Head down Cinder Lane past the football ground until you reach a path running left to right

Waypoint 2
Turn left and continue along though a large disused metal gate until you reach a fork and turn right along a narrow footpath. At this point you will find a map of the main paths around the lakes so you can extend the walk if you have the time
Waypoint 3
Continue along the path, past a turn off to the right that would take you into an open field until you reach the 2nd right hand turn where you will see a wooden bridge crossing a stream. Cross the bridge and turn immediately right
Waypoint 4
Continue along the path for about 50 meters and you will then come out into a river meadow with plenty of areas for the dogs to have a dip. From here just keep walking along the river for about 1/2 mile and you will eventually reach a metal bench by the old ford, this is a great place to stop for a picnic
Waypoint 5
With the ford behind you head diagonally left to the top right hand corner of the field where you will find a metal kissing gate. Go through the gate and along a narrow path until you come to a lane. From here turn right and continue along opposite side of the meadow
Waypoint 6
Follow the path for about 300 meters and then turn left into a small field. Leave the field and turn right along a concrete track
Waypoint 7
The track will take you between 2 large corn fields and then narrows to a path along the boundary of the left hand field, continue with the hedge on your right until you reach a path running left to right in front of you. This is the path you walked down from Waypoint 3. Turn left onto the path and retrace your steps back to the start.
