Granville County Park
Granville County Park offers a wide selection of great dog walks as well as the opportunity to view some fantastic ruins from the Industrial Revolution.
Where to Start?
We suggest you park at the top of Muxton Lane in the car park closest to the old Winding House. From the car park go through the gates and take the right hand path and follow it until you come to the remains of a brick building. This was the old Winding House which served the Muxton Bridge Colliery. The colliery opened in 1840 and was one of the earliest deep mines sunk by the Lilleshall Mining Company. Built in 1884 the Winding House would have been home to 2 high-pressure engines which served the mine.
From the winding house you have a selection of dog walking routes you can chose from.

Once you have taken in the Winding House follow the main track which soon swings right and then left to reach the remains of the pump house. The Pump house was home to a beam engine and was used to pump the water that had been drained from the collieries and discharge it into the adjacent Donnington Wood Canal.
Pump House to Muxton Marsh
After you have had your fill of taking in the ruins turn round and follow the main path back towards the winding house. Before you reach it, turn right up a flight of steps. From here take the narrow path as through the woodland and arrive at a small junction with an oak tree at its centre. Turn right here.
The path takes you down a flight of steps to a T-junction. Turn left here and going until you join a steep flight of steps leading you down to the bottom of the hill. At the bottom, turn left and you will emerge out to the pavement alongside Marshbrook Way. Turn right and cross over the side road, Ryder Drive.
Keep going for a short while and you will reach the main road. Cross here and walk through the blue arch to enter Muxton Marsh, the site of the former Freehold Colliery which closed in 1928.
From here you can retrace your steps back to the parking area.
