The Sherborne Estate Dog Walk is is a bit of a cheat. It’s well publicised and way-marked with a variety of routes to choose from between 2.5 and 5 miles.
Head out of Burford on the A40 towards Northleach. Take the 2nd turn to Sherborne and then take the first right signed Ewe Pen Barn – Parking. Park up and follow one of the 3 coloured routes.
Sherborne is a working estate and has an abundance of wildlife, from Fallow and Roe Deer to Badgers and Foxes. Ewe Pen Barn is the starting point for Lodge Park’s three main walking routes. These are the Short Woodland Stroll, The Family Fun Walk and The Historic Farmland Hike. Don’t miss out on the sculpture trail around the pleasure grounds and look out for the tree swings too!
Make sure to leave some time to visit the 18th-century water meadows (home to otters, water voles and dragonflies) – park at Northfield Barn car park which is just a short drive from Ewe Pen Barn. The estate is open year round, dawn to dusk.
In the Village of Sherborne there is a wonderful village shop and tea room which also sells local produce and is a great place to stop to refresh mid walk.
You can find out more about this fabulous National Trust property as well as what’s on here
Apes walk refreshments can be found at the Fox in Great Barrington where, for the more amorous walker, one can find fresh oysters, Champange and even a room…
We hope you like the Sherborne Estate Dog Walk, we did!
