Southrop & Eastleach Dog Walk

The Southrop and Eastleach Dog Walk is a circular walk starting at Southrop, taking in Eastleach and then back to Southrop.

We have mapped a short circuit but it can be extened by a couple of miles if you are feeling energetic.

The route starts and ends at the Swan and takes in the Victoria Inn at Eastleach, both pubs have outdoor space and are dog friendly.

Park as near to the Swan at Southrop as you can, here is generally plenty of space around the village green

Waypoint 1

With the Swan behind you turn left heading towards the school.

Waypoint 2

After a short distance you will see some stone steps on your left between 2 houses and a footpath sign. Climb the steps and go over the stone style onto a narrow footpath until you come to a wooden gate. Through the gate into an open field and head directly towards a 2nd wooden gate.

Waypoint 3

Turn half right heading diagonally towards a foot bridge crossing the River Leach.

Waypoint 4

Cross the bridge and turn immediately left through a metal 5 bar gate. This takes you onto a narrow path that follows the river

Waypoint 5

Eventually you will come to a road (take care to have dogs on leads) and turn left. Follow the road for about 1/3 mile until you come to Eastleach. We did this walk at 8pm on a Monday night and did not see a single car!

Waypoint 6

Reach the church on your left and turn left into the church yard signed Public Footpath and head straight across and out of a gate at the opposite end

Waypoint 7

Turn left along a stone path and over a stone bridge crossing back over the River Leach until you re-join the road

Waypoint 8

Turn left onto the Road and continue up the hill, after the crest continue until you reach the Victoria Inn where we strongly suggest you have a well de served break

Waypoint 9

When ready and refreshed head away from the Victoria Inn back the way you came, at the bottom of the hill with the War Memorial on your left, turn right and head towards the phone box, follow the road round to the right

Waypoint 10

Immediately after the terraced cottage on your left called “Four The Bourne” turn left and then follow the rd round the the right. On your right you will see a track with a footpath signed on the left

Waypoint 11

Follow the footpath until you come to a wooden style which opens into a large field. Over the style and head straight towards a metal gate at the far end with a stone style on the left

Waypoint 12

Cross the style keeping the tree line on your left and continue until you reach the far end of the field

Waypoint 13

Cross a double wooden style and head towards the foot bridge at the bottom of the field. Cross the bridge and head 1/2 left and over the style

Waypoint 14

Turn left walking along the edge of the field until you reach a track, on the left you will see a barn with no roof. Turn tight onto the track and immediately left down a very narrow footpath

Waypoint 15

Continue and cross a wooden style (this is the field you started in at Waypoint 3). Head straight across the field to the wooden gate and then reverse Way points 2 and 1 to get you back to the Swan
