Off Lead Dog Walking on Cannock Chase
At My best Friend Dog Care we believe that the best way for dogs to enjoy their walks with us is to be able to run free off lead.
Now, of course we take precautions to ensure their safety and that of other dogs and dog walkers. However, when group off lead walks are done properly by a professional dog walker they really are a joy.
Here at My Best Friend Dog Care Stafford I have lots of dogs that just love to run and play on the Chase. What I should make clear is that before I take any dog on a walk I go and meet with the owners to find our all about their best friends. One of the things we talk about is can their dog be let of lead. I tell them all about the benefits of off lead walking and how I manage the group during the walks. I don’t walk any dog off lead unless I have express permission from the client and even then never of the first walk! This gives the dog time to get to know me and the other dogs too.
As a My Best Friend Dog Care Franchisee I have completed a Dog Care Diploma which covers Safe and Responsible Dog Walking.
What’s great is that most of the dogs I walk have been with me for a long time. They all know me and my regular commands and I know them and their habits. Of course all of the dogs I walk wear a My Best Friend Dog Care ID Tag and I also pop a bell on their collar so I can hear them if they dart into the undergrowth.
Here’s a few of my regular off lead dogs…
I understand that not all dogs can be walked off lead. It might be that they are reactive to other dogs, have very poor recall or just like to chase rabbits and will only come back in their own time. That’s fine with me and I will often use a lunge line to allow these dogs some freedom but at the same time keeping them safe. I never use extendable leads as these are simply not safe. It’s very difficult to control the dog and they have been know to fail. They have also been know to cause injuries to both dog and dog walker when the get tangled around a leg or finger.
I am very lucky to be Mum to Millie, a wonderful Dalmatian who has near perfect recall on the whistle. She’s a real help in training the new dogs as they tend to follow her back to me thinking it’s a great game of chase.
