A Hainault Forest Stroll
With the temperature rising it becomes incredibly important to make sure that our furry friends do not overheat. All dogs are at Risk of overheating, but some breeds cope with the heat better than others.

For our regular Jed, the German Shepherd, the heat is a real concern because of his thick heavy coat. Whilst we simply wouldn’t take any risks by walking him if the temperature became too hot, we have had a record-breaking hot Spring so we’ve been extra cautious with him.
To help manage the health benefit of a substantial daily walk with the cautiousness of the heat we have made some small changes to Jed’s walking routine. Unusually Jed’s Solo country walk starts at around 11.30am but on the days were temperatures are due to reach 25 degrees or over we have taken him for his walk at 8.30am to avoid the rising temperature.
We have also been avoiding open plain areas as these tend to get hotter and have kept journeys to minimum times. Making sure the van is nice a cool before picking him up and finding shady parking spots also help keep the van cool whilst on the walk have also helped.
